Budapest’s nightlife has no limits when it comes to entertainment, as the fun spreads throughout the entire city; you can choose from ruin pubs, nightclubs, cocktail bars, raves, and casinos as well. But if you crave for a unique experience and would like to witness the magical sunset over Budapest from a cozy chair with a delicious cocktail in your hand, you must visit one of the city’s gracious rooftop bars. The capital is pretty tooled up when it comes to rooftop bars, and 360 Bar has one of the best views of them all. As the name suggests, the bar awes its guests with a full panoramic view over the capital complete with iconic sights such as the Basilica, the Citadel, the Parliament, the Buda Castle, and the Budapest Eye.
360 Bar is located close to Oktogon, to the right of the main entrance of Paris Department Store, a magnificent building built back in 1885. 360 Bar is without doubt one the hottest rooftop bars in the city. Filled with locals and tourists nibbling on sliders and sip cocktails, it’s situated atop one of the tallest buildings on Andrássy Avenue, also known as the Champs-Élysées of Budapest. The bar’s owners had their stroke of genius while sitting by the river Thames in London one day – they started talking about rooftop bars, fell in love with the idea, then decided to bring it to their homeland. As they say, the rest is history, and we couldn’t be happier about it!
How does 360 Bar stand out?
First and foremost, the aforementioned spectacular view over the roofs of Budapest – it’s truly a unique experience to gaze into the sunset or the infinite light bulbs of the midnight city. And as if that weren’t enough, 360 Bar has top notch service, as well as food and drinks – we’ll get back to these later. The owners also put a lot of thinking into how they could maintain a customer-favorite status in the winter, and came up with what’s probably the greatest idea seen in the hospitality sector recently: super stylish, heated plastic igloos that allow guests to admire the breathtaking views even when it’s raining cats and dogs or freezing cold outside.
The regular open-air season usually begins on May 1st and lasts until October, however, between October and May, winter cocktails and a seasonal menu help create a festive atmosphere. Let’s be honest – we’re all about summer chilling, but when you can hang out at a place like this in the winter, one can wait for the warmer months a litter more patiently.
Pro tip: Budapest in July is wonderful, perfect for a summer vacation. For a true beach experience, visit Lake Balaton, which is the Hungarians’ favorite summer holiday destination.
Classy yet eclectic – a truly unique bar
With or without the igloos, the design of 360 Bar is impressive: large glass trays, reinforced, rust-colored concrete structures, pallets, and a bunch of flower boxes made from old military crates – it doesn’t get more eclectic than that. In addition, the colorful wooden seats and bar stools give the whole place a funky vibe without taking away its classy edge. After sunset, lovely garland lights set the mood, and live gigs or DJ sets take care of entertainment. 360 Bar also frequently hosts various exciting events, so it’s best to regularly check their agenda. And if you’re wondering about the dress code, you shouldn’t. 360 Bar promotes a free, urban spirit of living, so guests can wear whatever they want.
Music, party, and great food – what more do you need?
From Thursday to Saturday, downtempo DJs spin their records, so you can chill out and have a nice chat with your friends or hot date. Their 360-milliliter custom jug is inventive, but not the most tempting deal price and value wise. They do many yummy cocktails, have their own craft beers, and serve their own version of international and traditional Hungarian dishes. Besides salads and sandwiches, their bistro-style daily menus comprise a soup, a seasonal main course, and a dessert. In addition, the bar offers a range of tasty meals for virtually all dietary habits, from vegetable plates to BBQ ribs. When it comes to prices, however, we must admit it’s not the cheapest venue of Budapest, but we promise: 360 Bar’s unique milieu and fancy drinks are well worth digging deep into your pocket.
Note:
To access this awesome rooftop hangout, you need to get into an elevator on Andrássy Avenue and make your way to the top of the former Paris Department Store. Entry is free from Monday to Wednesday, but be prepared: if you’d like to have a dinner or drink here; you must reserve a table a few days in advance. If you’re tired of taxis and public transport is out of the picture, visit 360 Bar during a Hop-on Hop-off tour or rent a scooter or Segway, and make a fun entrance!
