You can try to deny it, but deep down we all know that there’s no vacation, business trip, or even a sightseeing without a shopping tour. Blame it all on the consumer society we live in, but strolling through fancy boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants does raise our dopamine levels. So, if you’re in Budapest, and you’re done with all the touristy activities like from visiting thermal baths and the Buda castle, through tasting the best Hungarian foods and wines, to exploring the city’s nightlife, it’s time to enter one of the great shopping centers of Hungary and Central Europe – Aréna Mall.

Sometimes size does matter

Let’s start with some numbers and facts. Arena Mall covers an overall area of 200,000 square meters with 180,000 square meters of floor area (including parking lots) which makes it the largest shopping center of Hungary, as well as the Central European region (by overall size, however Westend is the largest). What good is all this space, you ask? Well, despite having over 130 shops, 22 catering units, a cinema with 22 rooms, and approximately 2,800 underground parking spots, neither the corridors, nor the shops feel crowded even during peak shopping hours. Still, all cards on the table, we would not recommend playing the chair game in the canteen during lunchtime!

IMAX, ScreenX, and VIP cinema in Arena

A giant plaza needs a giant cinema as well, so it should not come as a surprise that Arena Mall’s movie theatre is the largest in Hungary with its 22 rooms. However, it’s not only spectacular in size, but in apparatus as well. Boasting the one and only IMAX screen in the country, Arena attracts tens of thousands of film lovers every year who long for the finest 3D cinema experience there is. If this weren’t enough, they’ve built a room with a 270° screen that is also one of its kind in the country. By extending the middle canvas to the side walls of the room, movie viewers can immerse themselves in the stories like never before – it’s truly a breathtaking experience. And finally, the icing on the cake: Arena’s VIP cinema treats everyone who likes to eat a lot and watch movies at the same time (does anyone NOT like doing that?). For an insignificant amount of extra money, you can consume a significant amount of food and drinks in the all-you-can-eat buffet of the VIP room, including popcorn, soda, sandwiches, chicken wings, and salads.

Location is key

Alongside the abovementioned qualities, Arena Mall’ popularity also lies in its easy accessibility. It’s just a 5 minutes’ walk away from Keleti Railway Station, which is the largest train station of Budapest welcoming hundreds of trains from across Hungary every day, making Arena an obvious choice for a lot of commuters. Keleti is also a huge public transportation hub with metro lines, buses, trams, and trolleys, which makes Arena easy to reach for a shopping spree from just about everywhere in the city.
