Let’s be honest with ourselves – one of the most exciting activities of visiting a foreign city is shopping for keepsakes and souvenirs to remember our trip by, and Budapest is no exception. Although nothing tops exploring the Hungarian capital’s iconic sights or the nation’s distinct cuisine; sooner or later, you’ll start looking for places where you can spend some money on yourself or your loved ones. Be it clothes, cosmetics, souvenirs, or anything else, shopping malls are always a good place to live out your shopping desires, and Budapest has a great selection of those as well. In this article, we’ll take a look at Allee, a spacious shopping mall with a versatile range of stores and restaurants, a 13-room movie theater, great public transport connection, and more.
Meet Allee Mall
Opened in 2009, Allee Mall boasts an overall area of 47 000 square meters occupied by stores, restaurants, and entertainment services spread across the shopping center’s 3 floors. In addition, there’s a 3-level underground parking garage with a capacity of 1280 cars. Although Allee is a bit further out from the city center – it’s situated in the heart of Budapest’s – most populous – 11th district, it’s well worth visiting. At the time of its opening, Allee was the largest in-door shopping and hang-out place for residents of the district for a long time, and although Etele Mall’s imminent opening in the nearby Kelenföld neighborhood poses a possible threat to its unmatched popularity, it will still be more easily accessible and significantly closer to Budapest’s inner districts, so the operators won’ necessarily have a lot to worry about.
Allee’s stores and restaurants
Boasting 140 stores featuring some of the world’s most popular brands (from Calvin Klein through H&M to Swarovski), as well as local gems of all business areas, Allee Mall spoils its visitors for choice on three levels. Whether you want to shop for clothes, gifts, jewelry, beauty products, or anything else, you won’t be able to name a category that Allee doesn’t have at least a couple of options for. For the full list of stores in the mall, check their website.
And if work up a hefty appetite from all the shopping, there are plenty of restaurants and fast food joints both indoors and outdoors to choose from. From global favorites such KFC and Starbucks to local success stories like Zing Burger, Pad Thai Wokbar, and Bellozzo, the restaurants of Allee cover a wide range of cuisines and diets. If it’s nice out, we recommend the restaurants that have terraces opening from the mall on the adjacent car-free street – nothing beats having a nice meal in the fresh air, does it? In addition, you can always find food carts by the mall’s entrances which further expand a hungry shopper’s dining options.
Cinema City and other amenities at Allee Mall
If you’re all shopped out, Allee Mall has other means to treat you well, including its large movie theater operated by Cinema City, Hungary’s market-leading film screening company. Cinema City Allee has 13 screening rooms and frequently has movies on with both Hungarian dubbing and original voice, so if you happen to be in Budapest when your favorite actor’s long-awaited movie hits the theaters, you can get your dopamine fix at Allee.
Fun fact:
Cinema City operates movie theaters in most shopping malls in Hungary and screens movies with original voice in a couple of other locations alongside Allee.
In addition, Allee Mall also has beauty and hair salons, bank branches, pharmacies, and even a modern fitness center that caters to a gym addict’s every need.
Accessibility
One of Allee Mall’s main advantages is its easy accessibility thanks to its superb connection with public transportation. With the shopping center extending between and having entrances at both Újbuda-központ and Móricz Zsigmond körtér, metro line 4 and tram lines 4-6 are all great options to get here. To get to the main entrance, simply take metro line 4 or tram 4 to Újbuda-központ, you’ll see the mall as soon as you get off the tram, or come up to the surface from the metro. If you wish to approach the mall from Móricz Zsigmond körtér (served by metro line 4 and tram 6), turn into a little alley called Váli utca on the square – Allee’s back entrance will be down the alley.
