The best of both worlds: Japanese and Thai flavors, exotic cocktails, and more

Mixing contemporary and traditional Asian cuisine in the heart of Budapest, TOKIO restaurant and bar is the best of both worlds when it comes to offering a unique culinary experience and a great start to a Saturday night in the city. As its name suggests, the place brings a bit of Japan to the Pest side of the Danube, right to the middle of the party district of Budapest. Ideally located at the corner of Széchenyi István tér and one of the main party streets, Zrínyi utca, TOKIO is close to everything that matters. From the sightseeing side, the Chain Bridge and St. Stephen’s Basilica are just at the two ends of the street, while Ötkert, one of the most popular clubs in Budapest, is right next to TOKIO.

TOKIO’s animated interior is a hit

Being a Japanese-themed fusion restaurant and bar in Budapest, TOKIO is a real rarity in its own right. Yet, what strikes you immediately as you step inside is the brilliant decor, the work of talented young Hungarian designers. The new design came to life after the place changed its name from Kyoto to TOKIO and welcomed a new wave of next-generation customers, locals and tourists alike.

The restaurant and bar area is lit by neon lights and LED walls, bringing a fairly futuristic feel and techno touch to the room, but the true gem of TOKIO is without doubt the huge green robotic foot that stands casually by the tables. The exciting juxtaposition of various design elements is just another element of the fusion TOKIO is all about. Delicious dishes, great drinks, unique atmosphere – the perfect ingredients to an evening in Budapest.

Ready to explore more?

Once you’re high on sushi and cocktails, it’s time to explore a few other nooks of Budapest nightlife. The iconic local peculiarities are most definitely the ruin pubs, but if the mishmash of furniture stashed in ramshackle buildings doesn’t dazzle you, rooftop bars are always worth the climb – or the queue for the entrance. Alternately, you can sign up for a classy wine tasting in Budapest. The night is young, after all. Cheers!
